Each day people around the world generate huge amounts of waste. From the poorest of the poor to the richest of the rich, everyone produces some kind of waste each day. However, it would make sense that those with more, i.e rich nations, would produce more waste, and oftentimes the waste that is produced is much more harmful to the environment. For example, people in the developed world throw away harmful and high tech things such as batteries, ink cartridges, all different kinds of gadgets, and tons of plastic among other things, whereas people in the developing world are throwing away more organic things such as food scraps.
I try to recycle whenever possible and minimize my waste production, but even with that being said, I still generate a lot of waste. Today alone, I have thrown away things such as: cotton balls, paper towels, leftovers from lunch, a wrapper from my breakfast bar, candy wrappers, gum wrappers, papers I no longer needed, a broken hair tie, and gum that I had finished chewing. Including any leftover food from my meals, I would say that I throw away about an average of a pound of waste each day. Some days I definitely throw away more than that, but there are also plenty of days I throw away less than that. If I averaged about a pound of waste a day, that would be at least 365 pounds of waste each year. However, like I said earlier there are definitely days I throw away more. It would probably be a safe assumption to say that I average about 400 pounds of waste each year. If you multiply that my all of the people in the world, that is a huge amount of waste. All of this waste has to go somewhere eventually, so that is billions of pounds of waste that is created each year that we don't have the capacity to just get rid of.
